Is Your Dryer Technician Certified? Why You Should Care About a C-DET Certification

Do you think that your dryer might be due for a cleaning?

You know it has to get done, but you just don’t have the time, so you hire a professional instead, and that’s a wise choice.

Not only are you saving time, but you’re guaranteeing a job well done and done correctly.

However, not all dryer vent companies are made equal. You should always look into the experience and credentials of a company before you hire them to clean your dryer vents.

At Lint Lizards, our service is done by a Certified Dryer Exhaust Technician (C-DET) with a certification from the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA).

The CSIA is “dedicated to the education, training, and certification of chimney and industry related professionals.” This is the only nationally recognized certification for dryer vent professionals.

Not too shabby, right?

The greatest danger posed by a dirty dryer vent is the risk of fires that can spread throughout your home. These fires can result in enormous property damage, and can put your family at risk.

Therefore, a technician with the C-DET credential should be a huge vote of confidence when it comes to the safety of your dryer.

According to the CSIA website, all certified technicians are required to learn the following:

  • Basics of how dryers work, how to disassemble as needed for cleaning
  • Proper venting and clearances
  • Rerouting damaged or unusable vents
  • Dryer vent cleaning and maintenance tools
  • Dryer vent testing and cleaning
  • Technician safety

They are required to study the CSIA Certified Dryer Exhaust Technician Manual before ultimately taking a proctored exam to officially get the credential.

Well, there’s an inherent risk of potentially deadly fires that come with a dirty dryer vent. If you’re hiring a professional to clean them out, wouldn’t you want them to do so with safety in mind?

This certificate not only gives technicians a foundation to do a great job, but also the knowledge necessary to sure your dryer is operating safely.
